Making museums accessible for everyone

At the core of the FunkTek project was the principle that everyone has the right to participate in culture and to be part of creating it. But, many museums (and other places) are difficult to visit for people with disabilities – the FunkTek project set out to change that.

Together with the Museum of Gothenburg, the project hired people of different disabilities of help the project examine and analyse the exhibitions of the museum.

As a result of the three-year project between FunkTek and the Museum of Gothenburg, a manual called Just Act! was published to make the insights and solutions developed as part of the project accessible to more museums.

Among the developed solutions were improved legibility of exhibition texts, increased space to accommodate wheelchair users, improved tours for the visually/hearing impaired and more.
