Fairtrip lets you be the guide
The FairTrip app is a free collaborative tourist guide that helps travellers find and share places that have a positive social, environmental and economic impact. Any user can add/suggest a new place that meets FairTrip’s selection criteria: authentic, green, local, social and fair.
In order to be selected, places must respect local heritage, respect the environment, use short supply chains that support local businesses, facilitate social inclusion and benefit the local community through fair employment conditions.
Each place is submitted for approval from the FairTrip team before going live on the app. Users can write reviews and report on how/if the places continue to meet the selection criteria. In that way, every FairTrip user is a potential tourist guide.
FairTrip’s database consists of 3000 places including homestays, restaurants and experiences. The app donates 10%of its revenue to local charity projects.
