Way Out West goes out of their way to create a sustainable festival

Way Out West (WOW) festival in Gothenburg offers its visitors 3 days of concerts, panel debates, festivities and more. Since 2010, WOW’s culinary offerings have been entirely meat-free with a range of completely vegan options as well. The festival has also created a new stage devoted to political talks and discussions as Way Out West aims to create awareness on sustainability issues.

Currently, livestock makes up 15% of global emissions. Beef and dairy alone make up some 65% of total livestock emissions. Furthermore, an Oxford University study found that changing to a plant-based diet can lower your foodrelated emissions by as much as 73%. Hence, for many people, changing to a meat-free diet is the single biggest positive impact they can have on the environment.

WOW’s decision to go vegetarian led to a remarkable reduction of the festival’s ecological footprint; from 2,25 times normal consumption to 1,15 in just 2 years.
