G Adventures rippling change in the travel industry

In collaboration with Planeterra and Sustainable Travel International, adventure travel agency G Adventures created the Ripple Score. The score indicates how much of the money spent on the agency’s tours stays within the local economy. A Ripple Score of 100 indicates that 100% of spending stays in the local economy.

Tourism leakage (tourism spending that leaves the local economy) can halt economic development in local communities as some destinations see as little as 5% of tourism spending stay within the local economy.

Ripple Score is a way for tourists to ensure that they contribute to the local wealth and economic development of the destination they are visiting. G Adventures’ local partners are at least 50%locally owned and operated.

The goal is to make Ripple Score a global movement by helping other companies implement the system in collaboration with Sustainable Travel International.
