INOUT Hostel in Barcelona puts social inclusion first

INOUT Hostel in Barcelona has become a front-runner within social responsibility and environmental sustainability. The hostel strives towards social inclusion in the workforce, and at the time of writing 90% of INOUT Hostel employees have some sort of disability. Workers are offered indefinite contracts and at least 51% of hostel ownership is in the hands of workers.

INOUT Hostel also works to become more environmentally friendly. To minimise water usage, the hostel has equipped its showers with push buttons. In addition to being fully LED, the hostel’s lighting is triggered by motion sensors to ensure minimal energy consumption – an important feature as lighting makes up approx. 15% of the world’s electricity consumption and 5% of green house emissions. Situated in Collserola Natural Park, waste minimization is of utmost importance. To this end, the hostel runs a comprehensive recycling program to reduce its impact on the environment.
