Calculating the environmental impact of your meetings
The International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Green Meetings Calculator (GMC) is an app that identifies the optimal meeting location based on the CO2-emissions of the attendees’ air travel.
By entering the airports that attendees will be travelling from, the calculator finds the meeting location with the lowest air travel emissions. GMC lists a few cities to choose from and displays the aggregate carbon footprint from air travel for each one. The listed cities are required to be accessible by direct or, at most, one-stop flights. The GMC also lets users differentiate between Economy or Premium class – the latter of which has a higher carbon footprint.
While there are many factors to consider when planning a meeting location, the Green Meetings Calculator aims to help make the decision based on the environmental impact of travelling to attend. The app is free to use.
