Nornnorn makes sleep green

Thailand-based Nornnorn is a mattress rental service that lets hospitality businesses pay a monthly subscription to acquire mattresses. Upon subscribing, the business receives new mattresses to use during the subscription period. Once the period ends, Nornnorn collects the used mattresses to be recycled into new ones.

Used mattresses constitute a sizeable waste problem due to their weight and bulkiness. 2017 Estimates from The National Bed Federation show that in the UK alone 7.26 million mattresses are disposed of every year, weighing a total of 181,500 tons (nearly 1% of total household waste). Mattress recycling is generally uneconomical due to the low salvage value of mattress materials and high logistic costs of mattress collection. Nornnorn circumvents this through its subscription model, which covers the cost of producing, collecting and recycling the mattresses.

Nornnorn’s service is available for both business and private use.
